SPIRIT-ROOTED BIPOC HEALING
SPIRIT-ROOTED BIPOC HEALING
MEET THE ORGANIZATIONS
Most BIPOC and minority communities deeply desire to integrate their spirituality into their healing from social harm. Many must reclaim their religion to heal from religious harm. Funders who acknowledge this piece of ourselves can deeply connect to healing initiatives that allow for whole person development.
SOULFORCE SPOTLIGHT
Soulforce works to end the religious and political oppression of LGBTQI people by breaking open the ideologies of Christian Supremacy and healing our communities’ spirits from Spiritual Violence. They seed activists, organizers, and people of faith with analysis, political education and spiritual power. They also support leaders to unlearn toxic theologies and healing wounds of spiritual violence, so that they can cultivate spirits and pursue liberation. (Christian, Non Institutional + Organizing and Advocacy)
Soulforce’s theory of change rests on the idea that we can foster an irresistible movement of people working to end religion-based violence by outfitting our social justice movements with the tools we need to heal our spirits and counteract the vitriol of white Christian Supremacy.
JAIYA YOUTH
Jaia Youth is a personal development and leadership program for teens and young adults. They co-create with students in their program to build healthier communities by promoting mindfulness, mental health, literacy, and moral/ethical development. Through this work in schools, they bring spiritual practices as a tool to build power and agency within young people as they explore their own identities and leadership within their communities. (Non Institutional + Direct Impact in Education, Youth Development)
UNDIVIDED
Undivided is a collective of people with roots in the American Evangelical church who are troubled by the racial harm and injustices. Through a series of book studies and DEI trainings with large congregations, they support people to come together to learn with each other and then identify action they might take to connect their beliefs and learning related to racial justice. (Christian + Racial Justice and Organizing)
ACRES OF ANCESTRY
The Acres of Ancestry Initiative/Black Agrarian Fund is a multidisciplinary, cooperative nonprofit ecosystem rooted in Black ecocultural traditions and textile arts to regenerate custodial landownership, ecological stewardship, and food and fiber economies in the South. They preserve ancestral traditions, wisdom and land based spirituality in the form of stories and artwork. With these artifacts and through legal expertise, they advocate for legal rights of Southern farmers and reparations for years of systemic limitations on land ownership. (African Ancestral, Non Institutional + Storytelling and Cultural Preservation)
